A Night at the Opera Painted Vanity
Hey there! Who doesn’t like the opera? I have to admit – the closest I’ve been to the opera has been “Phantom of the Opera”. but still… who doesn’t like the idea of the opera. The glamor of it all, the drama, the history, the age, the music. It has such a powerful feeling all around. The opera has been around for ages, which makes this piece a bit comedic since it’s not even an antique. It was originally made by The Bombay Company (which has only been around since the 1970s).
This Bombay vanity screamed to me that it wanted to be dramatic. It was already on its way there with those barley twist legs and dangle pulls. It merely needed a little boost.
I bounced back and forth on whether or not to go metallic, possibly gold. Until I found the perfect fabric, and that was it, my mind was made up. The glamorous, dramatic fabric would be perfect! The more I look at it the more I love it! If you also love it you can find it here through my affiliate link.
The Makeover – Painted Vanity & Hardware
I decided to keep the piece itself a little less bold and painted a light gray with a soft black wash and distressed for age to give it a touch of old world charm. The hardware was cleaned to its original finish which really pops with the gold in the print. To be perfectly honest I actually painted the hardware and didn’t like it, cleaned the hardware, painted again, cleaned again until I realized that it was perfect left in its original cleaned condition. Sometimes the extra work just makes the light go off and it all clicks.
