What You Need to Make an Almond Milk Smoothie with Banana
You will need a few basic ingredients, and a blender to make this almond butter banana smoothie. This easy recipe is made with very simple ingredients and no fancy equipment, which makes it a great option when you are in the mood for something sweet and refreshing but you also want to stay on track with making healthy choices.
- 1 frozen banana
- 1 cup unsweetened almond milk
- 1/4 cup almond butter
- 1 scoop vanilla protein powder
- handful of ice cubes
Ingredient Tips and Substitutions
For this 4 ingredients smoothie recipe to reach its full creamy potential, you’ll need a frozen banana. To freeze bananas:
- remove the peel.
- chop or slice the banana into bite-sized pieces.
- spread the banana pieces out on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper (this helps them freeze evenly and prevents sticking) or place them in a resealable freezer bag. Squeeze out any excess air before sealing to prevent freezer burn.
Whichever method you choose, pop the banana pieces in the freezer for at least 2 hours, or ideally overnight, for a perfectly frozen texture.

This simple smoothie gets a big boost from protein powder. The protein helps balance the carbs and healthy fats in this drink, making it even more filling and keeping you satisfied for longer. Plus, it adds a delicious vanilla flavor that complements the almond butter and banana perfectly. There are many great protein powders out there, so choose your favorite! You can find my favorite clean protein powder online here: vanilla protein powder.
Skip the sugary almond butter options. For a truly healthy and delicious smoothie, choose natural almond or cashew butter. Make sure to check the label and ensure the only ingredient listed is the nut itself. Many popular brands sneak in added sugars and oils, turning a healthy choice into a not-so-healthy one.

You will also need a high-speed blender. I have this Vitamix, and I love it. It’s available online here: Vitamix Blender. There are also many different blenders available online for different price ranges, and abilities. You can find those here: Blenders.
How to Make a Banana Almond Milk Protein Smoothie
First, pour the almond milk into the blender. If you don’t have almond milk, you can swap for oat milk or cashew milk.
Next, add the frozen banana. If you didn’t have a chance to freeze a banana in advance, you can use a fresh banana.
Then add the protein powder and the ice.
Lastly, add the star ingredient: the almond butter! Then blend until smooth.
Pour the nutritious smoothie into a tall glass and enjoy.
