Healthy Easy Chocolate Truffles Recipe with Orange Zest

What You Will Need (Full Printable Recipe Available Below) 

(Makes 12)

  • 1 cup Medjool Dates (appx 12 medium sizeย dates) pitted
  • 1/2 cup blanched almonds slices
  • 2 Tbsp raw cacao powder
  • 1 Tbsp Pure Maple Syrup
  • 2 tsp of orange zest (zest from 1 large Naval orange) 
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened coconut flakes

How to Make Chocolate Truffles

First, you may ask what is a chocolate truffle? And, though the traditional chocolateย truffle consists of chocolateย ganache center, made with heavy cream and chocolate I like to take a healthier spin on it.

These tasty treats are just as delicious with all the flavor but made with natural sweeteners. Medjool dates are naturally sweet on their own making them the perfect choice for our chocolate truffle recipe. Also, maple syrup, just like honey is another natural sweetener that I tend to use on a regular basis. No sugar packets or boxed sugar in this house. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Easy Chocolate Truffle Recipe Instructions

  1. In a blender or food processor, combine the dates, almonds, cacao powder, maple syrup, and the orange zest. Process until well combined. Make sure that when you are making your homemadeย truffles to use raw cacao and not cocoa. There is a difference. This is the cacao powder that I use pretty much daily.   2. If you do not have a high-speed blender, soften the dates in hot water for 15 minutes to soften them up a bit. Then drain and pat them dry before mixing them. Easy Chocolate Truffles Recipe, making truffles with cacao, vegan truffles, chocolate truffle recipe
  3. Using a tablespoon measure, scoop out the chocolate truffle mixture and shape it into a smooth round ball. Place your chocolate truffle balls onto parchment paper. If the warmth of your hand makes it difficult to roll, place the mixture in the refrigerator for a few minutes. Sometimes the chocolate balls are easier to roll when they are a bit cooler in temperature. Also, if the date-nut mixture is too soft to form into a ball, you can add a tablespoon of coconut flour and let it stand for 5 minutes. Notes
