If I’m being perfectly honest, air fryer poached eggs are new to me. There are so many different cooking methods for making the perfect poached egg, so I decided to give this method a try. Air fryer recipes are often an easy way to make a side dish or snack. This time we are making poached eggs in the air fryer. Egg recipes are a great breakfast option. For this air fryer recipe, we will forget the pot of simmering water, and aim for a perfectly poached egg using nothing but the air fryer and a glass ramekin. Ready to ditch the mess and embrace a whole new way to enjoy poached eggs?

When it comes to poaching eggs, the result always comes down to the cooking time. Once you figure out the perfect cook time you will be an eggs-spert in the art of making perfect eggs. 

What You Need to Make Air Fryer Poached Eggs

For this simple egg recipe, all you need are fresh eggs, an air fryer, water, and a little bit of oil. For best results, use olive or avocado oil non-stick cooking spray.

How to Make Poached Eggs in an Air Fryer

First, preheat the air fryer by setting the temperature to 360 degrees F, and the time for 5 minutes. 

While the air fryer warms up spray each of the individual ramekins with a little oil, then add a few tablespoons of water to the ramekin, up to 1/4 cup of water Next, add a cracked egg to the water. The water should just be enough to cover the egg.

Then place the ramekins into the preheated air fryer basket.

How Long to Cook Poached Eggs in an Air Fryer

Set the time for 6-8 minutes and press start. The hot air circulation and power of the air fryer will slowly heat the water around the egg and cook it from the outside in. 

At the halfway point, or after 4-5 minutes, open the lid of the fryer and use a silicone spatula to gently loosen the egg. You want to make sure the egg whites don’t stick to the ramekin.

Then close the lid and allow the eggs to finish cooking. You may need to adjust the cooking time depending on how you like your yolks. For more creamy yolk add another 1-2 minutes. 

Don’t get discouraged if you don’t achieve a perfect runny yolk the first time. It often takes a few tries to get it right. 

When the eggs are done, carefully remove the ramekin from the air fryer basket. Keep in mind that they are hot and you should use oven mitts, or heat gloves to prevent burning your hands. I use these orange heat-resistant gloves: oven gloves.

Then tilt the ramekin to remove the excess water from the dish, or slide the cooked eggs, one at a time, onto a slotted spoon and dab it over a paper towel. 

Ninja Air Fryer Poached Eggs

These poached eggs are made using the Ninja air fryer, but you can make your own poached eggs in any air fryer following these simple steps.

Or try my poached egg recipe on top of avocado toast, with a side of fresh fruit or any of your favorite breakfast foods.

As a reference, to get these perfectly runny yolks, I used a total cook time of 8 minutes. On a separate attempt, I also tried a total of 13 minutes, which resulted in the yolks being cooked all the way through., almost like hard-boiled eggs.

*Truth time – ​To be honest, this is not my favorite method for making eggs. I find that the whites tend to stick to the ramekin, and I struggle with finding the right cooking time. I would much rather poach an egg in a poacher and get perfect results every time. But if you try the air fryer, I hope you have better luck than me.

Air fryer poached eggs: ditch the water bath and make perfectly cooked eggs, with just your air fryer and a touch of practice. From runny yolks to cooked-through.

Ingredients

  • fresh eggs
  • spray cooking oil
  • water

Instructions

  1. Preheat the air fryer to 360 degrees F for 5 minutes.
  2. Spray a ramekin with cooking spray oil
  3. Then add up to 1/4 water to the ramekin
  4. Crack an egg and put an egg in each ramekin
  5. Place ramekins in the air fryer basket
  6. Set time for 6-8 minutes
  7. At the 3-4 minute mark use a spatula to loosen each egg
  8. continue to cook until the desired doneness
