When cooking steaks of any kind I try to look for grass-fed and finished beef. You can order quality meats (beef, pork, chicken, bacon) online from Crowd Cow and have it shipped to your home, or get it at Whole Foods, or a local farm if one is available near you.
This filet mignon with bacon recipe is designed for the Ninja Foodi all-in-one air fryer but can be made using any comparable air fryer.
We source half of a cow from a local farm nearby, but for the sake of this recipe, I am using a filet mignon steak from Whole Foods. This makes it easy to see the nutritional information.
How to Air Fry Filet Mignon with Bacon
First, preheat the air fryer to 375 degrees F for 2-3 minutes.
Next, remove the steak from the package and pat the meat dry with paper towels. Then wrap a slice of bacon around the filet. One slice should be enough for a 4-5 oz steak. If you are using a larger cut of meat then you may need two pieces of bacon.
Secure the bacon with one or two toothpicks to hold it in place. Next, add salt and pepper to taste, or your favorite seasoning, like my homemade dry rub recipe, or premade Montreal steak seasoning.
How Long to Cook Bacon Wrapped Filet in the Air Fryer Ninja
Next, place the filet with bacon into the preheated air fryer basket. The beauty of this recipe lies in the bacon’s natural fat. As it cooks in the air fryer, it will render out, creating a flavorful coating for the basket. This eliminates the need for any additional oil like avocado or olive oil.
Set the cook time for 15 minutes and press start. At the halfway mark, around 7-8 minutes use a pair of silicone tongs and flip the tender steak over.
The end time will vary depending on how you like your steak. Use a meat thermometer to check the internal temperature of the meat at its thickest part, or the center.
Keep in mind that when you check the internal temp of the meat it will continue to cook once removed from the heat, so don’t wait too long. If you like your steak medium-rare then take it out of the air fryer when the internal temp is around 120-125. For medium steaks take it out when the internal temp is around 130-135, etc. Also, cooking times may vary with different air fryer makes and models so it’s best to keep an eye on the meat as it gets close to being done.
Rare | 120 F degrees |
Medium Rare | 130 F degrees |
Medium Well | 145 F degrees |
When done, make sure to remove the toothpicks and allow the steak to rest for a couple of minutes.
