For the milk, I stick with non-dairy milk like almond milk or cashew milk. You can use whatever your milk of choice is. This is my favorite almond milk.

For this peanut butter banana smoothie recipe you can use different nut butters if you’d like. Almond butter and cashew butter are great options. Make sure that whichever nut butter you choose the only ingredient is the nuts. Many popular brands of peanut butter add unnecessary ingredients like sugar and oils. This is my favorite brand of peanut butter.

When it comes to bananas, overripe bananas will offer the most natural sweetness. For best results, cut it up into banana chunks and freeze it ahead of time. When you use frozen bananas you eliminate the need for ice cubes, which prevents the smoothie from getting watered down.

How to freeze bananas? – an easy way to freeze bananas is to slice them into bite-sized pieces and place them on a piece of parchment paper in the freezer. Once the banana slices are frozen you can transfer them to a ziplock bag and keep them in the freezer for all of your banana smoothie recipes.

The protein powder is optional, but it does add a nice chocolate flavor to this creamy peanut butter banana smoothie. I am using a plant-based organic chocolate protein powder, made with simple clean ingredients. You can find it online here: protein powder

You will also need a high-speed blender. I have this Vitamix blender, and I love it. It’s available online here: Vitamix Blender. There are also many different blenders available online for different price ranges, and abilities. You can find those here: Blenders

Next, add the frozen bananas to the blender. If you aren’t able to freeze banana slices in advance, that’s okay. You will just need to add a few extra ice cubes to the smoothie.

Then add the peanut butter to the blender. You can use creamy or chunky peanut butter. If you opt for chunky peanut butter it will blend smooth in the blender.

Add the chocolate protein powder to the blender. Alternatively, if you would like a creamy chocolate flavor but don’t have protein powder, you can add a little raw cacao or cocoa powder instead.
